Introduction

The boom of technology in recent years has been responsible for countless great things. With more and more technology comes the need to link it all together. A single piece of technology nowadays, hardware or otherwise, is of very little use to anybody by itself—most modern technological advances are improvements or a derivative of older technology. Because of the importance of computers, there is a career devoted entire to this task, and that career is none other than Computer Engineering.

What do Computer Engineers do?

Computer Engineers are responsible for a number of things depending on the job, including installing computers inside of machines, creating networks in order to transfer information, and research and develop new methods of making computers better than they already are. Computer Engineers directly contribute to the modern computer’s ability to interact with us. By making computers more convenient and mobile, installing computers inside of existing products, and countless other tasks performed every day, Computer Engineering is a crucial profession.

More specifically, Computer Engineers analyze and solve any issues or problems with computers, both physically and inside of programs. This wide range of knowledge allows them to troubleshoot much more efficiently and develop the proper solution. For example, there are some issues with software that could be solved by modifying or replacing the current hardware, and the other way around. The ability to fully understand computing is what makes Computer Engineers so important in today’s technological world.

Business

When it comes to doing business, all modern corporations now realize the importance of utilizing technology to its fullest. The ability to network and share data throughout your entire corporation is invaluable, like being able to keep impeccable tax records in multiple branches of the company that all converge to one main office. Because networking is such a huge part of modern business, computer engineers are always in constant demand.

Healthcare and biomedical

Similar to the previous career path, working in biomedical as a Computer Engineer means you will be working closely with either medical equipment or medical software, or perhaps even both. This niche of computer engineer would be responsible for troubleshooting and developing strategies to optimize existing equipment and setting up new equipment.

Computer Engineering practices

While most Computer Engineering salary paid positions will vary in terms of duties and responsibilities, there are of tasks that are shared among most jobs. One major duty is writing software and firmware for various applications, and the respective operating systems that allow the software to function. Another is creating analog sensors and circuit boards, both of which are highly integral tasks.

On the development side of the field, a lot of Computer Engineers will research robotic theory and application, which will undoubtedly be made with digital systems. Some of these digital systems include communication circuits, sensors, and motors.

Computer Engineering salary

Unlike other professions that require basic education and a little work experience, Computer Engineering is an extremely precise and demanding career. You must not only know an extraordinary amount about computers, but you also must have hands on experience, as there is very little room for incompetency in this career. Because of that, a lot of computer engineering majors will get work experience while still in school.

Due to the demanding nature of the career, the average Computer Engineering salary is higher than that of most jobs. Depending on your geographical location, you can expect to make anywhere from $70,000 to $90,000 a year, however like any salary average, your individual result will probably vary.
